The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand have inked a historic peace agreement, formally concluding their recent border conflict. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, with the United States playing a pivotal role in facilitating the diplomacy. US President Donald Trump marked the occasion as a significant triumph for regional harmony. The agreement is designed to cease hostilities and establish mechanisms for enduring stability along their contentious 800-kilometer border. This resolution comes after a severe five-day clash earlier this year that led to loss of life and forced many to flee their homes. The accord includes the immediate release of 18 Cambodian soldiers held by Thailand and a mutual pledge to de-escalate by withdrawing heavy armaments from the border zones. Notably, President Trump leveraged economic influence, including potential tariff increases, to encourage both nations towards peace, demonstrating a proactive US role in Asian affairs. The US President is set to continue his diplomatic engagements at the summit.
