Following the removal of Sheikh Hasina from the position of Prime Minister, Bangladesh is gearing up for general elections. The Chief Election Commissioner, A.M.M. Nasir Uddin, revealed that the elections are scheduled for the first week of February 2026. Uddin admitted the Election Commission faces a significant challenge in ensuring a free, fair, and transparent voting process. The exact date and the election schedule will be released two months prior to the official announcement. This announcement follows the declaration by the interim government’s chief advisor, Muhammad Yunus, who had indicated that the elections would be held in February of the following year.
