Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, delivered a stirring call on March 5 in New Delhi: the world must adopt more of India’s diplomatic wisdom. Flanking PM Narendra Modi at a joint briefing, he commended India’s sovereignty-centric ethos and pragmatic worldview reshaping international dynamics.
‘India is among the mightiest nations, the world’s largest democracy, Europe’s strategic linchpin, and a fastest-growing economy unfolding before our eyes,’ Stubb said, tipping his hat to Modi’s skills.
He spotlighted India’s foreign policy excellence—free of illusions, anchored in reality. ‘You’ve exemplified strategic vigilance and autonomy protection alongside multilateral support. I firmly believe the world needs to be more Indian.’
With global structures in flux, India’s sway with Global South peers will define the new order, Stubb forecasted. Dialogues tackled area security, defense pacts, West Asia tensions, and Ukraine strife. Agreement held that halting wars aligns with universal good, with true peace via UN adherence.
A fixed UNSC position for India is imperative, he stressed. India-EU relations, a cornerstone strategic alliance, are off to a strong inception. Stubb brought along 20 Finnish companies innovating in quantum, satellites, networks, food, and green technologies, eager for joint ventures.
Stubb’s remarks elevate India’s profile, heralding a new chapter of Finland-India synergy in geopolitics, economy, and innovation.
