Big revelation in Andhra Pradesh train accident: Loco pilot was busy watching cricket on phone, 14 passengers lost their lives

Bhubaneswar. A big revelation has come to light regarding the train accident that took place in Andhra Pradesh in 2023. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that when there was a collision between two passenger trains on October 29, 2023, the loco pilot and co-pilot of one train were watching a cricket match on mobile. 14 passengers lost their lives in this accident.

Let us tell you that on October 29, at 7 pm, the Rayagada passenger train hit the Visakhapatnam Palasa train from behind on the Howrah-Chennai line at Kantakappalli in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. 14 passengers died in this incident, while more than 50 people were injured. The Railway Minister on Saturday referred to the Andhra train accident while talking about new safety measures that the Indian Railways is working on.

He said that the recent tragedy in Andhra Pradesh underlines the importance of ensuring complete concentration of train operators. We are introducing systems that are capable of detecting distractions, to ensure that pilots and their assistants remain completely focused on their duties.

Although the official report of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has not been made public yet, a preliminary investigation conducted by the railway authorities the day after the accident found the driver and assistant driver of the Rayagada passenger train responsible for the collision. It is being told that he ignored two auto signals in a faulty manner, which led to the accident, in which he also lost his life.
