Actually, on Wednesday morning, road repair work was going on with the help of JCB in Bansdroni area of Kolkata. The student was a resident of ward number 113 of the municipality. It is alleged that while going to the coaching centre, the student was hit by a JCB and crushed. The student suffered serious head injuries. He was admitted to the hospital, but he could not be saved. Local people said that despite the accident, local TMC councilor Anita Majumdar did not reach the spot. People were adamant on calling the councilor to the spot immediately and started protesting.

Ganguly claimed that Das and other BJP supporters were carrying out a peaceful protest when they were attacked by local Trinamool Congress workers. He also alleged that instead of taking action against the attackers, the police arrested the protesters themselves. Ganguly remained on strike throughout the night and was finally arrested by the Kolkata Police around 10 am on Thursday.
