Blast in a pharma company factory: 17 killed, more than 33 injured in fire

Anakapalli. 17 people died in a massive fire after a blast in a pharma company’s factory, more than 33 people were injured in the incident. The incident took place in Anakapalli Achyutapuram, Andhra Pradesh.

Anakapalli District Collector Vijaya Krishnan said that the accident took place on Wednesday at the plant of Essentia Advanced Sciences Private Limited. There was panic in the area after the incident. The sound of the explosion was so loud that people nearby were frightened. The teams that reached the spot started the rescue work.

The DM said that 381 workers work in two shifts in the factory. The explosion happened during the lunch break in the afternoon. Therefore, the attendance of the workers was less. He said that it is suspected that the explosion happened due to an electrical short circuit.

33 injured people were admitted to various hospitals in Anakapalli and Achutapuram. The fire department deployed six fire engines for rescue operations. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the loss of lives.

Achuthapuram is located in the Special Economic Zone. Initially, media reports said the incident was caused by an explosion in a chemical reactor at the plant. The collector has denied this.
