Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the foreign ministers and heads of standing bodies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing, where they were attending the SCO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting. Xi lauded the SCO’s maturity and vitality over the past two decades, attributing its success to the Shanghai Spirit. He reiterated China’s dedication to the SCO, focusing on regional security, prosperity, and fostering a community with a shared future. Since assuming the rotating presidency, China has been actively involved in cooperative activities, preparing for the upcoming SCO Summit in Tianjin. Xi expressed his desire to meet with other leaders at the summit and called for the SCO to contribute to global stability amidst international challenges. India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who was present at the meeting, briefed Xi Jinping on recent bilateral developments and conveyed greetings from India’s President and Prime Minister. This visit marked Jaishankar’s first trip to China since the 2020 Galwan military clash.
