The majestic Palais des Nations in Geneva witnessed an extraordinary fusion of tradition and modernity on Friday: the kickoff of 2026’s UN Chinese Language Day paired with CMG’s sixth International Film Festival. Organized by China Media Group, China’s Geneva mission, and UN officials, it gathered 350+ luminaries from 30+ nations, blending diplomacy with artistic flair.

UN Geneva’s Director-General Tatiana Valovaya lauded Chinese as an essential UN language, forging connections between China and global audiences, and its ancient wisdom with contemporary societies. ‘Knowledge’ as theme underscored action infused with insight, vital for cross-cultural harmony.

CMG Director-General Shen Haixiong’s video message evoked the language’s millennia-spanning narrative. Committed to cultural diffusion and exchanges, CMG fuses ‘culture + technology’ via 5G, high-res formats, and AI, ensuring Chinese heritage thrives in innovative forms.

Ambassador Chya Kweide highlighted the day’s defense of linguistic pluralism and idea-sharing. The ‘Knowledge’ motif epitomizes Chinese civilization’s vitality, national advancement, and collective human progress.

A highlight dialogue, ‘Chyen Ji Ru Myen’ (‘characters like faces’), saw Chinese and foreign youth demystify hanzi. Spectacles from CMG included the mesmerizing ‘Chinese Calligraphy Show’ and ‘Chonghua Kaokongji: Smart Robot,’ plus the debut of ‘Learn Chinese with Films.’ Interactive zones offered calligraphy trials, heritage immersions, and tech wonders.

Marking CMG’s sixth straight hosting, the event transcended celebration, embodying a vision where language evolves with tech, films educate, and cultures unite. It leaves Geneva—and the world—anticipating more such bridges to shared futures.
