Alexander Duncan, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Texas, is at the center of a controversy sparked by his comments on a Hanuman statue in Sugar Land. Duncan, who is running for election to the Senate to represent Texas, questioned the presence of the Hindu deity’s statue, characterizing it as a violation of the United States’ Christian identity. He posted his opinions on social media, accompanied by a video of the statue situated at the Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple. He further elaborated on his views by quoting biblical scripture. The Hindu American Foundation has responded strongly to Duncan’s statements, accusing him of promoting anti-Hindu sentiment and filing a complaint with the Texas Republican Party. Duncan is a graduate of West Ranch High School, the University of California, Irvine, and Northeastern University. He is campaigning on a platform of traditional conservative principles including faith, family, and freedom. The Statue of Union at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple is notable as the tallest Hanuman statue in North America.
