Operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport came to a standstill Saturday afternoon due to a fire that erupted near Gate 8. The incident, which began around 2:30 PM, triggered an immediate response from the Fire Service, with an escalating number of units ultimately reaching 28 to manage the blaze. Airport authorities assured the public that all aircraft were secured and that more information would be released as it became available. While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, initial assessments suggest no injuries or major damage to airport infrastructure. The disruption led to the temporary halting of all arriving and departing flights. Many planes were redirected to alternative airports in Chattogram and Sylhet to mitigate the impact of the closure. The airport anticipates reopening by 6:00 PM.
