Renna O’Rourke, a 19-year-old from Arizona, tragically passed away after attempting the ‘dusting’ challenge, a dangerous trend circulating on social media. The challenge involves inhaling household cleaners to achieve a temporary high. Renna’s father explained that her boyfriend obtained a keyboard cleaner, and when she inhaled it, she suffered cardiac arrest. Despite being in the ICU for several days, she was eventually declared brain dead. The trend, also referred to as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ carries a significant risk of causing heart failure, as noted by the Cleveland Clinic. Renna’s mother emphasized the easy accessibility of these cleaners, highlighting the need for parental vigilance. The family has launched an awareness campaign and a GoFundMe page to address medical expenses.
