Now the losing candidates will be able to match EVM data and VVPAT slips. To make the democratic process more transparent, the Election Commission has made another provision. According to this provision, candidates who suspect irregularities in voting (dissatisfied with voting and counting) can choose any EVM of any polling station for examination, whose data and VVPAT slips can be matched.

The commission has issued an SOP and announced to provide this facility to the candidates who came second and third in the election. As per the rules, five percent of the total number of EVM VVPAT sets in any constituency is matched randomly. Within this number, candidates can request for verification by paying the appropriate fee by mentioning the booth and EVM serial number of their specific choice.

Advance amount has to be deposited
According to the officials of the commission, for the memory verification of EVM and VVPAT during the Lok Sabha elections, Rs 40,000 per machine and 18% GST has to be deposited in advance. The team of technical experts of the commission verifies the data in front of everyone. If the complaint is found to be correct, i.e. if there is any irregularity between the EVM data and the slips, then action will be taken and the entire fee will be refunded to the complainant. If the complaint is not found to be correct, then the fee will be confiscated.

There will not be 100% matching
Let us tell you that according to the decision of the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta in the Supreme Court on April 26, it is necessary to apply for verification within seven days of counting. In an important decision given on April 26, the Supreme Court had made it clear that voting is appropriate only through EVM machines. EVM-VVPAT will not be matched 100 percent. The data of EVM i.e. memory and VVPAT slip will be kept safe for 45 days. These slips will be kept safe with the signature of the candidates or their agents.

If the complaint is resolved, the expenses will be refunded
Justice Khanna said that the candidates will have to bear the cost of VVPAT verification themselves. If in any case EVM tampering is found then the cost will be refunded.
