The Morning Midas, a cargo ship transporting around 3,000 vehicles, including 800 electric vehicles (EVs), has sunk in the North Pacific. The ship caught fire and the crew had to evacuate. The ship was destined for Mexico when the incident happened near the Aleutian Islands. The sinking occurred in international waters, approximately 415 miles from land. While initial assessments showed no visible pollution, the US Coast Guard and salvage teams are prepared to respond to any environmental concerns. The fire’s intensity made it impossible to extinguish and ultimately led to the ship’s demise. All crew members were rescued.
