Guan Jing, a Chinese mountaineer, perished during the descent from K2 after conquering the summit. Authorities reported that the climber was struck by falling rocks on Tuesday while returning from the summit he achieved on Monday. The Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan is home to K2, a peak renowned for its height of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet). K2 presents significant climbing challenges due to its steep inclines, erratic weather patterns, and the frequent occurrence of rockfalls. This incident occurs close to the death of Laura Dahlmeier, a German mountaineer and Olympic gold medalist who died while climbing another mountain in the area, just two weeks prior to this event.
