Bangladesh has taken in a large number of Rohingya refugees. The government’s efforts to host approximately one million Rohingya refugees have earned international recognition. The influx of Rohingya began in 2017, when violence in Myanmar forced nearly 700,000 people to seek refuge. Recent conflicts in Myanmar’s Rakhine State have led to even more refugees arriving in Bangladesh. The international community provides assistance to support these refugees. In a recent development, the Netherlands has pledged financial aid to support the Rohingya. The Dutch embassy in Dhaka announced a financial contribution of over 500,000 Euros to the UNHCR. This aid aims to provide protection and humanitarian support to the refugees. The UN has also expressed support by visiting refugee camps and pledging aid to Bangladesh. The Rohingya community faces persecution globally, with some seeking refuge in India. India’s treatment of these refugees has drawn international concern.
