Amidst violent protests on September 8th and 9th, sparked by alleged corruption and restrictions on social media websites, at least 72 individuals, including three police officers, lost their lives. On Friday, former Prime Minister Oli denied that he had ordered any shooting during the Gen-Z demonstrations. He stated that automatic weapons, not possessed by the police, were used against the protesters. Oli called for an investigation into the matter. In his first public statement since resigning from the prime minister’s post, Oli, the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), blamed infiltrators for the violence that occurred during the peaceful Gen-Z protests. In a message issued on Constitution Day, the 73-year-old Oli declared that the government had not ordered the shooting of protesters.
