A new report from the IAEA suggests Iran was on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon before the June 13th attack. The report details that Iran had significantly boosted its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. The IAEA report states that Iran possessed 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% as of June 13th. This represented a substantial increase of 32.3 kilograms from the May figures. The IAEA emphasizes the significance of this, as a 90% enrichment level is required for nuclear weapon production, making the 60% level a critical threshold. The data used in the report comes from Iranian-provided data, inspections conducted between May 17 and June 12, and analysis of past operations. The report also highlights that inspections have not resumed at the nuclear sites impacted by the bombings in June. Only the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, which benefits from Russian technical aid, has been inspected since the attacks. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi has urged Iran to cooperate to fully restore inspections and has noted that Iran’s halt in cooperation is a serious matter.
