Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in India for a visit on August 18-19, 2025, following an invitation from NSA Ajit Doval. A key focus of the discussions between Wang Yi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was the ongoing border issues. Jaishankar underscored that the foundation for any positive progress in relations hinges on the joint ability to maintain peace and stability along the border. He also stressed the necessity of advancing the de-escalation efforts. The meeting also provided a platform for discussing the global landscape. Jaishankar expressed India’s support for a fair, balanced, and multipolar world order, including a multipolar Asia. He also advocated for the reform of multilateral institutions and the need to stabilize the global economy. Both sides also discussed the importance of combating terrorism. Wang Yi addressed the maintenance of peace in border regions, highlighting the resumption of Indian pilgrimages. He expressed optimism about expanding cooperation and fostering stronger ties between China and India. Wang Yi is set to engage in the 24th round of Special Representatives’ Talks with India’s NSA, Ajit Doval, concerning the India-China boundary question.
