Following an explosion and fire aboard the MV Wan Hai 503 near Kerala, China has extended its gratitude to India for the rapid rescue operations undertaken by the Indian Navy and the Mumbai Coast Guard. The Chinese Embassy’s statement, delivered by spokesperson Yu Jing on X, highlighted the professionalism of the Indian authorities. The incident took place 44 nautical miles from Azhikkal, Kerala, affecting a crew of 22, including 14 Chinese nationals. The ship, en route from Colombo to Nhava Sheva, experienced an under-deck explosion, leading to missing and injured crew members. The Indian Coast Guard immediately responded, deploying ships like ICGS Rajdoot, Arnvesh, and Sachet, as well as aircraft for assessment and assistance. Firefighting efforts are underway, and the vessel is experiencing a significant list. The Coast Guard continues to provide updates as the situation develops.
