The Indian government has denied issuing any orders to withhold the Reuters account on X, the social media platform. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a statement on Sunday, asserting that there was no government requirement to restrict access to the Reuters handle. The statement highlighted that the government is actively collaborating with X to resolve the issue. Users in India currently cannot access the Reuters account, with a message indicating that it has been withheld due to a legal demand. This restriction also affects the X handles of TRT from Turkiye and China’s Global Times. X explains that these restrictions are enforced due to legal obligations, such as court orders or local regulations, triggered by reports submitted through established support channels.
