Iran has announced Major General Amir Hatami as the new Army Chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as reported by Iranian state media. The appointment follows a series of events, including Israeli strikes on Iranian soil, which led to the death of key military figures. In response, Iran launched approximately 150 ballistic missiles towards Israel. Hatami’s selection, highlighted by Khamenei’s decree, is attributed to his extensive experience, having served as Defence Minister from 2013 to 2021. He steps into the role left by Lieutenant General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi, succeeding Gen. Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, with further key appointments, including Major General Mohammad Pakpour as Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, signaling a restructuring of Iran’s military leadership.
