Iran has strongly criticized the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom for what it perceives as the instrumentalization of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for political objectives. The accusation, voiced by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, came in response to reports that these Western nations are advocating for an anti-Iran resolution at the IAEA’s Board of Governors meeting in Vienna. Baqaei stated that, despite past cooperation with the IAEA, the US and the European trio have exploited the agency to further their political agendas. He emphasized Iran’s dedication to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and Comprehensive Safeguard Agreements. Reports suggest that these nations are pushing for a resolution against Iran concerning non-compliance with safeguard obligations. Concurrently, discussions have taken place between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Trump reportedly requested Russia’s assistance in reviving the deadlocked nuclear talks between the US and Iran. The talks, as confirmed by aides, centered on the US-Iran nuclear program, with Trump conveying his belief that Russia’s involvement could be beneficial.
