Recently Digvijay Singh of Congress said that these people play with EVMs on some seats, so that no one has any doubt. Now Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has alleged that if BJP officials are working as directors in EVM manufacturing company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), then how are they safe?

Randeep Singh Surjewala, citing a news report on social media platform Can there be free and fair elections? Who will protect the sanctity of the elections?” The Congress leader raised questions on the Election Commission and asked why the ECI is silent in this matter?

According to the report cited by Surjewala, EAS Sarma, former Secretary to the Government of India, has written a letter to the Election Commission. Through the letter, he has raised the question of the BJP leader being on the post of director of EVM manufacturing company Bharat Electronics Limited. He has also said that the Election Commission should give clarification on this and has also demanded instructions to cancel such people. Sarma said that the details of the action taken by BEL should be kept in the public domain.

Former GOI secretary Sarma, in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and two other commissioners, said, “BJP as a political party plays an important role in running BEL. Apart from this, BEL, which manufactures and supplies EVMs, is monitored by CPSE, which also includes the secret encrypted source code embedded in the EVMs.”
