New Delhi emerged as a hub of Middle East-India diplomacy Friday, with EAM S. Jaishankar spearheading vital discussions. Topping the list was an in-depth session with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit, aimed at amplifying cooperation in key areas.
The leaders delved into strengthening partnerships across domains while reviewing regional happenings. Jaishankar shared insights via X: ‘Excellent meeting this morning with Secretary General of League of Arab States Ahmed Abul Gheit. We had detailed discussions on our cooperation and ways to strengthen it across different domains. Exchanged views on recent developments in the region as well.’
Adding to the momentum, Jaishankar conferred with Comoros FM Mbe Mohamed on shared priorities including healthcare, sports, infrastructure projects, and capacity development. ‘Great to meet Comoros FM Mbe Mohamed today. Conversations focused on health, sports, infrastructure, and capacity building cooperation. Consensus on ramping up bilateral dialogues,’ he posted.
These parleys set the tone for the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, reviving a key forum after 10 years. Abul Gheit, greeted effusively by MEA, joins ministers from UAE, Comoros, Palestine, Sudan, and others. ‘Welcoming LAS chief for the pivotal 2nd IAFMM – a testament to our deepening India-Arab alliance,’ MEA tweeted.
Friday’s senior officials’ dialogue paved the way, echoing the 2014 Bahrain summit’s five pillars. Rooted in the 2002 MoU, this institutional backbone promises to elevate economic, energy, educational, cultural, and media exchanges, fostering enduring strategic alignment.
