Japan’s Ministry of Defense’s ATLA (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency) conducted sea trials of the railgun between June and July. The railgun, mounted on the JS Asuka vessel, fired projectiles at a target ship. Unlike conventional weapons, a railgun operates using electricity to propel projectiles at incredible speeds, potentially intercepting hypersonic missiles. The exact extent of the damage inflicted during the test is not publicly available, but this marks a significant milestone.
