Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated his expectation that India will apologize and work towards a trade agreement with the United States. Lutnick believes India will acknowledge its reliance on the US market for its economic success. He referenced Canada’s shift in strategy to secure a deal with the US. Lutnick, in a TV interview, predicted India would seek a deal with the US. This comes in the wake of former President Donald Trump’s social media remarks, where he claimed the US has lost both Russia and India to China. These comments followed a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Tianjin, where India, Russia, and China participated together. Trump had posted an old image with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump had also accused Xi Jinping of conspiring against America.
