The motorcade of French President Emmanuel Macron, en route to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, was intercepted by police. The halt was implemented to facilitate the movement of Donald Trump’s departing motorcade. Macron then disembarked from his car and conversed with traffic police officials. The incident has been widely shared on social media platforms.
The circulating video illustrates an officer informing Macron about the road closure necessitated by Trump’s motorcade. Subsequently, Macron is seen making a phone call, believed to be to the former US President.
Macron lightheartedly asked Trump to resolve the traffic delay.
Following the police intervention, Macron contacted Trump. He humorously told Trump that he was standing on a New York street, awaiting him, due to the closures caused by his motorcade.
Macron then mingled with onlookers on the streets of New York, even stopping to take pictures. The New York Police Department has not issued any official comments on the incident.
Macron is in New York to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting. On the opening day, he announced recognition of Palestine. France holds a permanent seat in the United Nations. The current UN meeting agenda includes terrorism, climate change, Palestine, and the situation in Syria.
France is drawing global attention during the meeting, being the first European nation and a permanent UN member to publicly recognize Palestine as an independent country.
