Maharashtra’s senior OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal on Saturday revealed that he has resigned from his post on November 16 in protest against giving reservation to Marathas from the OBC category. However, it has not been accepted yet. When this information was not given till now, Bhujbal said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis had asked him to remain silent on this matter.

Addressing an OBC rally in Ahmednagar, Bhujbal said that I remained silent on this (resignation), but some people are now demanding Bhujbal’s removal from the cabinet for speaking in favor of OBCs. I will fight for OBCs till my last breath. Bhujbal was referring to Shiv Sena’s Buldhana MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who had used derogatory words against Bhujbal and sought his resignation from the post of minister.

This was the first public rally of the OBC community after the Shinde government of Maharashtra on January 27 issued a notification to issue Kunbi certificates to blood relatives of members of the Maratha community with Kunbi background. Reacting to Bhujbal’s comment, Fadnavis said that the Chief Minister would be more capable of commenting on Bhujbal’s resignation. At this time, all I can say is that the CM has not yet accepted the resignation.
