Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed hope for a hostage release deal with Hamas, potentially leading to a 60-day ceasefire during which negotiations could occur. He stated, “We’re going to defeat these monsters and get our hostages back.” Netanyahu believes a deal could be finalized within days. He met with US President Donald Trump, before returning to Israel, where indirect talks continue in Qatar, amidst signs of a stalemate. Netanyahu mentioned a 60-day ceasefire to facilitate hostage release and negotiations for an end to the conflict. He added, the war could conclude immediately if Hamas disarms. The Trump administration is reportedly against Israel resuming fighting after a potential ceasefire, a point of contention in ongoing negotiations. Netanyahu has asserted that Israel would return to war if Hamas fails to comply. He emphasized Israel’s war aims will be achieved through negotiation or force. In a memorial service, Netanyahu addressed the heavy cost of war and pledged to fight rising antisemitism.
