Following discussions between India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Canadian National Security Advisor Nathalie Drouin, India and Canada have agreed to strengthen their cooperation. The focus of their talks in Delhi was on countering terrorism and international crime. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this development, highlighting a renewed commitment to bilateral ties.
The discussions between the officials centered on counter-terrorism measures, intelligence sharing, and addressing organized crime. The two nations also explored shared perspectives on regional and global issues. The Ministry of External Affairs indicated that the leaders of both India and Canada are actively working to enhance trust and collaboration.
The meeting comes at a critical juncture, following a period of strained relations in 2023, triggered by the assassination of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations against India had significantly impacted the relationship. Subsequently, both countries had withdrawn diplomats.
The recent meeting between Doval and Drouin in Delhi was preceded by discussions at the G7 Summit, setting the stage for improved relations. The appointment of new ambassadors by both nations also signals a commitment to further dialogue and cooperation.
