A new rule implemented by the US government, titled “Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers,” modifies the H-1B visa program. This includes an annual fee of $100,000 for new applications, effective from September 21, 2025. There has been concern among immigration lawyers and companies, advising H-1B holders and their families outside the US to return immediately. The new fee represents a significant increase compared to the current range of $2,000-$5,000. The government acknowledges potential implications for startups, small businesses, and Indian IT professionals, and warned that the fee could cause problems for skilled Indian workers and their families in the US.
