New Stealth Frigate ‘Tamal’ to Bolster Indian Navy’s Capabilities

The Indian Navy will formally induct the stealth frigate ‘Tamal’ into its fleet on July 1st during a ceremony in Kaliningrad, Russia. The commissioning event will see the presence of key dignitaries, including Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh. ‘Tamal’ is a significant addition, being part of the Krivak class of warships and the Tushil class. This class represents an advancement over earlier vessels, incorporating a higher level of technology and indigenous components. The construction of ‘Tamal’, built at Yantar Shipyard, was closely monitored by an Indian team. The frigate is equipped with advanced systems including BrahMos missiles, modern radars and sensors. The ship’s capabilities extend to supporting helicopters, offering network-centric warfare capabilities, and an advanced electronic warfare suite. The crew of ‘Tamal’ has undergone intensive training to ensure operational readiness. The frigate will join the Western Fleet, under the Western Naval Command, as a symbol of Indo-Russian cooperation and a boost to India’s naval strength.
