KP Sharma Oli, the former Prime Minister of Nepal, has spoken out for the first time since resigning amidst Gen-Z led protests. He denied ordering the shooting of protesters, who took to the streets to voice their discontent with the government. Oli, who resigned on September 9th, stated that the shots fired at protestors were from automatic weapons that the police did not possess. He questioned who was responsible for the gunfire, claiming the incident was a planned conspiracy and called for an investigation. Furthermore, Oli expressed his sadness over the deaths of protestors during the violent demonstrations and criticized the interim government led by Sushila Karki, claiming it was formed through arson and vandalism, not constitutional processes. He also demanded security for himself and other leaders, stating that they will not leave the country and aim to rebuild it by restoring law and order and upholding the constitution. Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has issued a notice urging all parties to maintain peace as elections are scheduled for March 5, 2026.
