The Indian Consulate in Toronto has unveiled the One Stop Centre for Women (OSCW), now operational to safeguard Indian women in Canada. This comprehensive facility assists with everything from financial distress to criminal victimization, serving students, professionals, and residents alike.
Acting Consul General Kapidhwaj Pratap Singh, in an interview with Radio Canada International, described it as a crucial link between Indian women and support systems. He pointed to prevalent issues like household violence, dowry exploitation, and abandonment.
“Local organizations offer help, but cultural barriers silence many voices,” Singh observed. OSCW steps in with tailored, stigma-free assistance, including financial aid.
Since launching December 26, the center has fielded numerous calls, proving its immediate relevance. It provides instant counseling, psychosocial services, legal counsel, and pathways to Canadian resources, respecting all local laws.
This initiative not only resolves individual plights but also builds a safer, more equitable community for the Indian diaspora. With glowing early reception, OSCW promises lasting change for women far from home.
