Amid escalating unrest in Nepal, fueled by a ban on social media platforms, a major prison break has been reported. In excess of 1,500 prisoners have escaped from multiple correctional facilities across the country. The events unfolded around 7 p.m., as described by police officer Heramba Sharma, when more than 500 protesters arrived at a prison. Despite the prisoners’ limited resources, consisting of kitchen implements, the protesters’ use of crowbars allowed them to breach security. The police were unable to stop the prisoners from escaping. This is an ongoing story, and more information is expected.
