Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar embarked on a visit to Bangladesh, resulting in a bilateral agreement and five MoUs aimed at bolstering relations. The agreements were signed at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka, with Dar and Foreign Advisor Mohammad Touhid Hossain overseeing the proceedings. Discussions preceding the signings centered on enhancing trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. The current trade volume is below $1 billion annually, with both parties expressing a commitment to significant growth in the coming years. The Bangladesh delegation was led by Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain, and the Pakistani delegation by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The signed agreements encompass a visa waiver for official and diplomatic passport holders. Furthermore, a Joint Action Committee will be formed to address trade-related matters. Collaboration between the foreign service academies, national news agencies (BSS and APPC), and strategic studies institutes (BIISS and ISSI) was also formalized. A cultural exchange program was also established to foster stronger people-to-people connections, paving the way for deeper cooperation.
Dar’s visit to Dhaka included meetings with various political leaders and a scheduled meeting with Mohammad Yunus. The timing of the visit is notable, occurring during the final months of the interim government.
