South China’s Hainan Island turned into a retail powerhouse this Spring Festival 2026, with Haikou customs supervising 2.072 billion yuan in duty-free sales – surging 30.8% over last year.
Sales volume climbed 21.9% to 1.997 million pieces, powered by 325,000 buyer visits, a 35.4% increase. Hainan’s FTP policies are clearly resonating, blending leisure with lucrative shopping opportunities.
Zero-tariff imports amounted to 48.6 million yuan, granting 9.4232 million yuan in tax reductions – a win for affordability and economic circulation.
Benefiting from FTP customs pauses, the port imported 1.426 billion yuan worth of goods like crude oil and coal. Exports hit 344 million yuan, encompassing chemical products and rapeseed oil.
This performance reinforces Hainan’s role in China’s opening-up strategy. Stakeholders are optimistic, viewing these trends as harbingers of sustained prosperity and innovation in free trade models.
