Assistant Inspector Ananta Das said, “Miscreants set fire to around 12 houses in Ranirbazar late on Sunday night. The idol of Goddess Kali was found damaged in Kaiturbari here. Some motorcycles and pickup vans were also burnt to ashes in the fire.” There is no report of any casualty in the incident.

Das said that a heavy deployment of security forces has been made to defuse the tension and the Director General of Police and the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura have visited the area. He said, “After the assessment of the damage to the properties is completed, the police will take suo motu cognizance and register a case. The situation is under control.”

Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday expressed concern over the incident and appealed to everyone to maintain law and order. He said, “Our state is facing a natural disaster and tension is high, that is why some people are doing religious politics. Whatever the religion, miscreants should be dealt with strictly. I appeal to Tripura to remain united in this difficult time and not fight with each other.”
