In a move to strengthen their decades-old alliance, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan entered a mutual defense pact on September 17, 2025, stating that any aggression against one would be considered against both. The Indian government, through the MEA, responded to reports, confirming awareness of the agreement which formalizes an existing arrangement. The MEA indicated it would be assessing the impact of the agreement on India’s national security, regional dynamics, and global stability. The pact was inked in Riyadh during a state visit by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, hosted by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. The agreement highlights the historical partnership between the two nations.
