Amidst renewed diplomatic ties between India and Canada, the extremist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a banned Khalistani outfit, has issued a threat to “siege” the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on September 18. The group, which supports the Khalistan movement, has stated its plan to take over the consulate on the specified date and has advised Indo-Canadians with consulate appointments to choose a different time. In a public statement, SFJ accused Indian consulates of running a spy network, allegedly engaging in surveillance activities targeting individuals associated with the Khalistan movement. The statement also cited Prime Minister Trudeau’s earlier statements regarding the investigation into the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, suggesting that Indian agents were involved. It further stated that Indian consulates are persisting in their alleged surveillance of Khalistan Referendum campaigners.
