In a late-night move, the Nepali government decided to remove the restrictions on social media platforms after widespread protests, predominantly organized by Gen Z, turned violent, leading to clashes. Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung confirmed the decision, simultaneously urging the protesters to end their demonstrations. The decision was made after an emergency cabinet meeting. Initially, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli had maintained the ban, even as the death toll from the protests climbed to 19. Following the ban’s revocation, the Prime Minister affirmed the commitment to responsible use of social media.
