China’s table tennis powerhouses Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha capped off the WTT Singapore Smash on March 1 with gold in men’s and women’s singles, thrilling fans with their skill and determination.
The women’s semifinals saw Sun Yingsha dismantle Chen Yi 4-1, leveraging superior spin and positioning. Wang Manyu joined her in the final after a similar 4-1 victory over Germany’s Sabine Winter, promising a blockbuster showdown.
True to form, the final went the distance over six games, with Sun Yingsha securing a 4-2 win through clutch plays and endurance. ‘Every game against Manyu is tough—we both went all out,’ she remarked, content with her event-long dominance.
Wang Chuqin faced early resistance from Felix Lebrun in the men’s semis but flipped the script, taking four straight games for a 4-1 triumph. He then dominated the final 4-0 against Lin Yun-ju, exhibiting flawless technique from start to finish.
‘My improvements in fitness, mental strength, and technical prowess have been key,’ Wang explained.
