According to the prosecution, the case was registered against the accused on September 19, 2023. Earlier, the apex court had ordered the recording of the statement of the victim by June 30, taking cognizance of the fact that several witnesses in the case had not testified. The accused had claimed that no important witness had testified in the case and had sought bail.

The apex court was hearing a bail plea of an accused in the rape of a minor girl. The concerned bench said, “We are seeing this happening day by day… Every state counsel is taking our orders casually. If this is not done in a week, we will call your home secretary here. We are guilty for allowing these things to happen… the fault is on our part. The message should go (out).” Initially, Prasad sought adjournment saying the victim’s evidence could not be recorded as there was a condolence meeting in the trial court. The bench said the attitude of the state counsel was extremely casual. Since it was a mandatory order, the prosecution should file a plea for extension of time.
