In response to escalating military posturing by China, Taiwan is embarking on an ambitious plan to acquire a substantial drone fleet within the next two years. This initiative involves the purchase of roughly 50,000 drones, aimed at strengthening Taiwan’s defensive capabilities. The move is part of a broader effort to modernize and enhance Taiwan’s military readiness. A detailed procurement schedule from the Taiwanese government reveals that the Armaments Bureau is set to procure over 11,000 drones in the upcoming year, followed by nearly 40,000 more in 2027. These drones will be comprised of multiple types, reflecting a strategic shift towards unmanned aerial systems.
