The Taliban has expanded its control over education in Afghanistan by removing 51 subjects from the school syllabus. This decision follows similar changes made to university courses earlier. The Ministry of Education released a notice explaining that the subjects were removed because they contradict Islamic principles. Included in the banned topics are those related to national symbols, human rights, and celebrations such as Teacher’s Day. The curriculum alterations impact students from the first grade through the twelfth grade. The Taliban has yet to officially comment on the matter. This move is consistent with the Taliban’s broader efforts to enforce its strict interpretation of Islamic law within the education system.
