Most people in India use road to travel from one place to another, but during this time they face problems like congestion, disputes and many other problems at toll plazas. But now these daily hassles will become a thing of the past.

Actually, the Government of India is going to implement a new system, due to which there will be no need to stop while traveling on the National Highway. Currently, toll is collected through FASTag. The National Highway Authority is soon going to implement this new toll collection system across the country. NHAI has taken a step forward in this effort and has invited global tenders and EOI.

Now toll tax will be deducted like this

Let us tell you that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited tenders and expressions of interest (EOI) from all over the world to implement the satellite-based electronic toll collection system. NHAI has said in its official statement that this system based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) will give people traveling on national highways a unique and great experience of paying toll without stopping. The Global Navigation Satellite System will collect toll according to the travel of vehicles, that is, it will be ascertained through satellite how many kilometers the vehicle has traveled and toll will have to be paid accordingly. The purpose of this initiative of NHAI is to eliminate the existing toll booth system on highways.

Currently, toll is collected in this manner in RFID based ETC.

RFID based ETC and GNSS based ETC will work together

NHAI has ordered a major change in the deployment of IT systems and hardware at toll plazas to make tax transactions through FASTag hassle-free for commuters. Only those companies were given the opportunity to do this work who would have extensive experience in this work. The company getting the tender for this work will have to compulsorily buy its equipment from manufacturers certified by the Directorate of Standardization Testing and Quality Certification of the Ministry of Electronics and IT. According to the instructions issued by NHAI’s unit IHMCL, to work with it, the company will have to have STQC certification for all its equipment including RFID reader with antenna, automatic number plate reader, toll lane controller and toll plaza server. System integrators will have to give an undertaking to IHMCL that if any disturbance is found at the toll plaza assigned to them due to the equipment, the agency will have the right to immediately suspend the panel and seize its bank guarantee.

The statement said that NHAI is planning to implement GNSS based electronic toll collection (ETC) system within the existing Fastag system. Initially, there is a plan to adopt a mixed model under the pilot project in which both RFID based ETC and GNSS based ETC will work together.
