Hermosillo, Mexico – A catastrophic fire at a downtown discount store has claimed the lives of 23 people, including numerous children, and left 11 others injured. The tragedy unfolded at a Waldo’s store in the capital of Sonora state, sending shockwaves through the community.
Governor Alfonso Durazo officially confirmed the fatalities and injuries, expressing the profound sadness felt by the people of Sonora. The victims tragically comprised 12 women, five men, and six minors – four boys and two girls. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the intensity of the fire proved a formidable obstacle to their life-saving efforts.
Authorities have ruled out deliberate criminal activity, stating that the fire appears accidental. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the blaze. In response to the disaster, the Mexican President has offered heartfelt condolences and instructed federal resources to be mobilized to aid Sonora.
