Following a post on Truth Social suggesting the US had lost India and Russia to China, Donald Trump has issued a response. Addressing the media, Trump distanced himself from the idea that this shift had occurred. He also voiced his disapproval of India’s continued purchase of oil from Russia, while also mentioning the substantial tariffs the US has placed on Indian imports. Trump highlighted his amicable relationship with Prime Minister Modi, referring to a past meeting. Prior to Trump’s comments, Peter Navarro, a former advisor, criticized India’s trade practices. Kevin Hassett, a White House Economic Advisor, also expressed the administration’s disappointment concerning India’s Russian oil imports. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India has declined to comment on Trump’s remarks, but has affirmed its continued engagement with the US on trade matters. The US has imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty for importing Russian oil.
