The United States’ recent deployment of its Typhon missile system in Japan has triggered significant disapproval from China and Russia. The demonstration, which took place on Monday, highlights the U.S.’s increasing military presence in the region. The U.S. has already stationed a Typhon system in the Philippines, and Australia is also equipped with this missile system. The deployment coincided with the ‘Resolute Dragon 2025’ joint military exercise, involving 20,000 US and Japanese soldiers. The Typhon system can launch both Tomahawk cruise missiles, with a range of 1,600 kilometers, and SM-6 interceptors, potentially putting areas of China and Russia within striking distance. According to military officials, the Typhon’s deployment is designed to create strategic dilemmas for potential adversaries. Both China and Russia have voiced concerns that this move is contributing to an arms race.
