Russian forces launched a major assault targeting Ukrainian military installations and gas infrastructure, as detailed in reports. The attacks involved long-range drones and missiles, launched overnight and hitting all assigned targets, as per the Russian Ministry of Defence. Naftogaz, Ukraine’s national energy company, reported that the strikes were the most substantial to date on Ukrainian gas extraction sites, leading to critical damage, with around 35 missiles impacting facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. The scale of the latest assault exceeds a previous large-scale attack in July, occurring amid renewed attempts by Kyiv’s Western allies to broker a peace settlement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attacks as a deliberate escalation, prolonging the war. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the attacks as a “massive assault,” with multiple cities coming under fire.
